More About Honey Twigs
Single flora honey is distinguished by its distinctive and authentic flavors, which are directly shaped by the nectar collected from specific flowers visited by bees, as well as by the climatic conditions and geographical locations of their hives. Boasting the most extensive variety of single flora honey in the market, we collaborate closely with beekeepers to guarantee that our honey authentically reflects its floral source. Each variety of our honey is meticulously labeled to indicate its floral origin and is packaged in elegant, minimalist jars that enhance its rich, natural color and taste, ensuring a pure and unadulterated experience.
Our honey remains 100% natural, with no additives. The flavor originates from the nectar of flowers, which the bees exclusively feed on in orchards. This dedicated feeding process ensures that the honey acquires its distinctive flavoured taste, reflecting the purity and essence of the flower's nectar.
Honey crystallization is a natural phenomenon in 100% pure honey, resulting from its composition as a supersaturated solution of two natural sugars: glucose and fructose. The ratio of these sugars varies based on the plants bees feed on. Glucose crystallizes, making some honey types more resistant to crystallization due to their lower glucose content. This process is natural and uncontrolled, where glucose separates into crystals, while fructose remains liquid.
Contrary to crystallized honey, over-processed commercial honeys often do not crystallize. Crystallization does not imply adulteration with sugar or jaggery; it's a response to cold temperatures and can be reversed by warming the honey. In some regions, crystallized honey is even used like jam.
Honey's color, ranging from blonde to dark brown, depends on the bees' floral diet. The texture of honey varies with environmental moisture levels; for instance, honey from the Western Ghats, a region with high rainfall, has more moisture.
The flavor of honey is not uniform but varies with the floral source, season, and bee type. It can be sweet, bitter, or sour, with bitter honey often valued for its nutritional benefits. The presence of a residue layer on top of honey, typically pollen, is not a sign of spoilage. This pollen layer, which dissolves upon stirring, is increasingly recognized as a superfood, with bee pollen consumed separately in many cultures.
Our honey jars don't carry an expiry date but a best before date. This means the honey remains safe to consume even past this date. Post the best before date, you may notice changes in the honey's color, aroma, and texture. Such transformations, like darkening or crystallization, don't compromise the honey's safety. Instead, they indicate its purity, as all natural honey tends to darken or thicken over time. If honey remains unchanged in color and texture for an extended period, it could be a sign of synthetic, heavily processed honey, which is a cause for concern.
